On Australia's biggest race day, Morphettville was up there with the best in terms of its style stakes. Thousands descended on Adelaide's premier race course to watch the race that stops the nation, and of course, for one of the Fashion at The Races competition's biggest events.
With dozens entering the competition, the judges decision was harder than ever. Shared by blogger and style influencer Jamie Reilly, M.J. Bale regional manager Samuel Horgan, Burnside Village marketing manager Renee Billic and Thoroughbred Racing SA's Michelle Greene, the decision came down to crown Abby Von Duve as the winner. Her beautifully styled and individual look won the judges over, with very close runners-up in Cat Southern and Michelle Wheare.
The gentlemen also impressed, with the impressive Josh Paice taking out the men's prize in his unique and colourful statement jacket.
We spoke to Abby Von Duve about her outfit and her love of racing fashion. The stylist hailing from Mount Gambier is no stranger to dressing up for a day at The Races, having taken out FATR titles in past year's with her impressive race day looks.
Congratulations on your win! Who is your winning outfit by?
My dress is by Pasduchas, shoes by Sol Sana, and my hat was originally a vintage black and white piece that I recovered with white leather, altered the shape and painted the brim. Then I added the flowers to soften the overall look. My clutch was an op shop find painted copper to match!
Describe your personal style..
It varies from season to season! I love simple pieces with interesting details; anything I can wear with my cowboy boots, and I've never met a backless dress I haven't fallen in love with.
Who is your style icon?
Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins have an amazing boho/vintage/classic style that is always stunning.
Your favourite designer?
Pasduchas is fast becoming my go-to label for the races, but I am a Kookai girl through and through- the fit is perfect for me and I love their luxe basic style.
What do you love about a day at The Races?
Obviously the fashion is the biggest draw for me, I love the rules and traditions associated with the Races and enjoy the challenge of creating a look that respects the history while looking fresh and modern.
What piece of clothing could you not live without?
I have a gorgeous pair of Kookai leather pants that I live in!
