Winner Interview - Balaklava Cup

The very first event of the 2016-17 Fashion at The Races Competition brought the first winner of the competition to qualify for the state final, Oksana Caretti. The aspiring millinery impressed the judges by standing out from the crowd in her original but cohesive look that she made herself, paired with matching accessories and an impressive headpiece. We sat down with Oksana after her win to find out a bit more about her. Today is your last chance to vote for Oksana to win the People's Choice Award, so be quick!

Congratulations on your win! How did you feel when you won?
I felt happy, grateful and appreciate of the judge's opinion!

 

Who is your dress and millinery by?
I'm a fashion millinery student at TAFE SA, so both dress and millinery was made by me. 

 

Where did you rinspiration for your look come from?
I was inspired by what my mother used to wear to the Ballet and Opera in Russia when I was growing up.

 

What do you love about a day at The Races?
It's an opportunity to dress up, feel fabulous, catch up with friends and soak up the amazing atmopshere of hte race track.

 

Who is your favourite milliner?
I'm all for supporting the local Australian millners, Kim Fletcher is my favourite.

 

Who is your style icon?
Audrey Hepburn.

 

What are you tips for dressing up for a day at The Races?
Wear comfortable shoes, dress according to the weather, and invest in your millinery!
