5 Minutes with Ashlee Lauren

The south-east of South Australia is full of fashion, with so many stylish women, on-trend boutiques and stores, and talented milliners. Ashlee Lauren, based in Mount Gambier, is the talented creator of unique headpieces, accessories and bridal pieces. With a swag of media features and awards under her belt, Ashlee has created pieces for brides and racegoers around Australia and the world, as well as being worn by big time social media stars like @friendinfashion and @elisecook at race days.

Her pieces have made frequent apperances on Fashion at The Races entrants as well, with entrants such as Brianna Scanlon and Abby Von Duve sporting her pieces. We spoke to Ashlee to find out more about her design style and her millinery collection.

What inspires your millinery line?

Fashion mainly, it has to work hand in hand. Otherwise focusing on new colours and textures for the season.

How would you describe your own personal style?

A mix of elegant, elaborate and exotic. I aim for a soft feminine feel while using bold designs to exhibit equally beauty but a sense of power and divergence.

What are some of your favourite pieces from your collection?

My new embellished headbands and elevated crowns.

Who do you look to for style inspiration?

Josephine Baker, I love how revolutionary she was for her time. I feel like my designs have reflected her looks from her era in a way of evolving from art deco to a bit more wild and out there

What do you love about The Races?

The colour, freedom of imagination and the fact it allows people to express their individuality through fashion and millinery; even those who wouldn’t usually on a day to day basis.

What style tips would you give for the ladies and gentlemen heading to The Races?

Don’t be scared to get a bit more bold with your colours this season, try cognac, berry or khaki mixed with subtle metallics.
