Winner Interview - Mount Gambier

The Mount Gambier Gold Cup is one of the biggest events not just in the South-East, but in South Australia, with a thriving fashion community making for an intense Fashions on the Field competition. Each year the ladies and gentlemen wow in the best Autumn and Winter trends, with the event always being a bit of a cold and chilly, but still fun day!

2017 was no different, with a tough field in both the ladies and gentlemen's categories for Fashions on the Field. We saw a few of the competitions winners already, but the competition was taken out by Mount Gambier's Ilana Adam. Part of the team at the famous Mangos Fashion Boutique, Ilana impressed with her take on the on-trend combination of red and pink, as well as nailing the Winter style. We love a good DIY, and Ilana's self designed and made outfit was incredibly impressive! We spoke to her to find out more!

Who is your winning outfit by?

I designed my dress myself with my mother, and she sewed it. My headwere is customized Lack of Colour, and shoe from Nine West that I painted to match!

What brought you to the Races today?

It's always a fun social event in Mount Gambier.  We have been living in the UK for the last two years so it's a great way to catch up with the local community and I always love an excuse to dress up.

Have you entered Fashions on the Field events before in SA?

I have entered a few times over the years - only in Mount Gambier.  I think it was 2004 when I first entered and was lucky enough to win!  I still remember my outfit perfectly - my mum made my outfit again, a long sleeve chocolate brown dress that had a subtle check with a wide brim chupalla style hat, vintage fur and brooch.  I painted my shoes then as well - black to brown!

Who is your style icon?

Definitely Olivia Palermo.  I always love what she is wearing and she is great at mixing designer and high street pieces.

Your favourite designer or brand?

Zara! Especially in the UK, their range is unbelievable and you can always find an affordable way to create the looks you see on the runway and in magazines.  We also have recently started carrying the label Pasduchas where I work at Mangos Fashion- their dresses are stunning.

What would be your dream purchase?

A classic designer handbag like Celine's Phantom or a beautiful diamond watch.

What do you love about the races?

The atmosphere!  The combination of watching the beautiful horses, fashion, food and fun makes for a perfect day out.

The next chance to qualify for Fashion at The Races is at the Hawker Cup on May 27. It is one of the final events of the competition, so make sure to enter to qualify for the state final!
