Street style looks from Oakbank

The Oakbank Racing Club has been a family favourite for nearly 150 years, seeing a swarm of about 20,000 racegoers curate experiences as inclusive or exclusive as they desired. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Adelaide Hills, the crowds arrived early to pitch tents, light up barbecues and roll out picnic blankets in anticipation of this particularly charming race day, or check themselves into the bounty of VIP spots by the track. As adults and children alike were well-occupied by the rides and roving entertainers, we casted our eyes along the grass to find the best in street-suave.

While many a gentleman celebrated the classic match of chinos and loafers, some dared to experiment with subtly checked suiting, statement ties and prominent lapel-candy. The femme front dressed to ladylike lengths in demure pastels, textured lace and soft prints, featuring the occasional rush of burgundy and whimsical flower power – plus a touch of Gucci to bolster the accessories game. Striking jumpsuits made appearances in powerful colours with the waist making a welcome comeback.

On the headwear scene, the crowd favoured felts and boaters over fascinators, as many donned undone waves and opted out of their crowns. However, one spectacular red floral piece by the talented Shauna Caddy Millinery sat atop the immaculate up-do of Fashion at the Races winner Nicole Hawkins. In a flirty Thurley dress with dainty elbow-length sleeves and delightful botanical details, Nicole’s red Betts pumps made for a magical contrast against the luscious green, with metallic Lovisa accessories making her ensemble even worthier of her win.
