The Katnook Penola Cup is every limestone coast family’s most anticipated long weekend spectacle. From the parent-popular PIMMS pop-up bar to the bouncing castle and endless games, the carnival is a highlight on the Coonawarra social calendar. However, April 21 brought more than just the Easter bunny to this southeastern town, as our Fashion At The Races qualifying heat redefined vintage glamour at the Penola Racing Club.
The colour spectrum at the track ranged from midnight blue with polka dot prints to amethyst mesh, with plenty of floral pops in between. Dressing for autumn, the ladies parading Penola focused on texture, layering and accessories. Clashing coloured gloves, boots, brooches, box clutches and elevated millinery pieces took country racing fashion to the next level.
Our FATR winner Nicole Rose was crowned Best Dressed Woman in a bright red full skirted elbow-length dress with a luxurious black fur stole, sheer black stockings, black patent heels and a matching Saint Laurent shoulder bag. Nicole polished her autumnal ensemble with an inspired perched spun black millinery piece with gold detailing, resonating classic feminine elegance.
